Our Story
The Home That Helped Change a Nation
The L.C. and Daisy Bates House is a national civil rights landmark located in Little Rock, Arkansas. In 1957, this modest home became the heartbeat of the battle to desegregate Little Rock Central High School. It served as a safe haven, planning space, and source of strength for the Little Rock Nine and their supporters.
Daisy & L.C. Bates: Leaders of the Movement
Daisy Bates, president of the Arkansas State Conference of the NAACP and co-publisher of the Arkansas State Press with her husband L.C., was a fearless voice for justice. She mentored the Little Rock Nine, advocated in the courts and the press, and transformed her home into a headquarters for strategy and safety during the school desegregation crisis.
